Deeside Welcomes Scores of 4x4 Off Road Enthusiasts
Well known outdoor pursuits company, Deeside Activity Park, welcomed a whole range of 4x4 vehicles onto their off road course on Sunday 6th December.
The sixth annual off road owners open day was a huge success, with 40 drivers participating and a huge range of vehicles. Guests were given the opportunity to test out a couple of different routes round Deeside Activity Park’s course. The Centre covers 80 acres of ground on Royal Deeside and a significant part of this is given over to 4x4 off roading. The course includes steep ascents, near vertical descents, tough traverses, and at the moment, lots and lots of mud.
“This event really is very popular” said event organiser Jenny Ogden, “there are very few places where owners can take their 4x4’s off road in this area. This is a unique product and is really only available once a year. If you missed this event, keep an eye on our website as we’ll be hosting another open day next winter ”.
As well as giving visitors the opportunity to test out their vehicle’s off road capabilities, a competition is run to assess driving skills. ‘Big Bertha’, the Park’s giant vehicle see-saw, is a great challenge as competitors are timed to see how long they can stay atop her, that is with both ends balanced in mid-air. Last year’s winner, Jim Lamb, held the record at 1 ½ minutes. This year, Gideon Cowen from Bieldside, was victorious. His time of 46.83 seconds was impressive, but not record breaking.
The 4x4 Owner’s Open day is just one of a series of special events organised by Deeside Activity Park throughout the quiet shoulder months. Later this month, on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th December, the Park is teaming with Deeside Brewery to offer a last minute shopping experience. The Winter Solstice ShopFest will feature a limited edition Christmas ale and a mulled beer created by the brewery, and will also have a number of stalls including the Activity Park gift vouchers and Christmas hampers. The kids will be well entertained with Santa’s grotto, hog bus sleigh rides and face painting.
