A new exhibition has been opened at Braemar Castle. The Hill & River Exhibition aims to showcase the importance of salmon fishing, deer management and grouse shooting to the Deeside economy. The exhibition has been produced by Royal Deeside DMO in conjunction with the Cairngorms National Park Authority (CNPA) which has also provided funding for the event. Also funding the project is LEADER,  Scottish Government Leader and Aberdeenshire Council. The Hill & River Exhibition will run from 5 August until the end of October. Sat and Suns (and Wed - August only).

Royal Deeside in the Cairngorms National Park is blessed with some of the finest natural environments in Scotland, making it perfect for outdoor recreation. Salmon fishing, deer management and grouse shooting are all extremely important to the local Deeside economy and to ensure they remain sustainable for the future, it’s imperative that we protect these valuable natural assets. The exhibition fits closely with the CNPA’s key aims of highlighting the need to provide high quality opportunities for outdoor access and the codes which visitors should abide by will also be included in the exhibition.

There are many activities which take place in the area that depend on the quality of the natural environment and this in turn, influences the management of this part of the Cairngorms National Park. It will be a highly informative and educational resource for local people and visitors to the area about how we are protecting and investing in the sustainable development of our natural environment.

Simon Blackett, Chairman of Braemar Community Ltd says, “To ensure that tourism to this part of the Cairngorms National Park stays strong it is important that we invest in the key highlights which attract visitors to Royal Deeside. While we at the Castle provide an insight into the history of the Braemar area, this exhibition will look at the present and the future of this special place, and is therefore a must see for everyone!

The project was PART-FINANCED BY THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT AND THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY [Cairngorms Local Action Group] LEADER 2007-2013 Programme.
