Distilleries

Royal Deeside's Royal Lochnagar Distillery is one of Scotland's finest and is located next to Balmoral Castle. The original distillery was opened in 1826 and moved to its present site in 1841 after the original buildings were burnt down - some say by competitors. The fame of the distillery spread after 1848 when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert visited it on their first holiday on Deeside.

The distillery offers regular public tours that take you through all the stages and processes of making whisky. At the end of your tour you'll have the chance to sample the "water of life", as we Scots call it.
