Treasure Trails
A Treasure Trail is basically a self-guided treasure hunt where participants have to solve clues whilst exploring the best parts of a town. We have Trails in the towns and villages of Royal Deeside (Banchory, Aboyne, Ballater, Braemar and the Royal Deeside Village Trail) and beyond.
There are 3 different formats for the Trails – finding Buried Treasure, solving a Murder Mystery or foiling the plans of a baddie in a Spy Trail!
Each Trail is roughly 2 miles long and should take about 1½ to 2 hours to complete.
The Trails provide an inexpensive afternoon of fun for families or groups for just £5 with a chance to win a £1000 cash prize.

Braemar Highland Safaris
Travel in a comfortable 4x4 into remote parts of the Cairngorms National Park where you are likely to see red and roe deer, mountain hares, red and black grouse, red squirrels, golden eagles and perhaps ospreys. Ballater (RD) Ltd. was hatched out of a study into the development of rural economies commissioned by Scottish Enterprise and Aberdeenshire Council in 1996. A Business Plan was initiated and this culminated in seed-corn money being provided by both public bodies to incorporate the Company. A Public Meeting was called in late 1996, and under supervision by the Council and the Enterprise Company a Board of Directors was appointed. The Company became a Scottish Registered Charity.

Balmoral Estate
The Balmoral Estate is the Scottish home to the British Royal Family. The estate is open to the public from April to the end of July each year. Visitors can enjoy an audio tour, included in the admission charge which guides them around the gardens, grounds and exhibitions of this unique Highland estate. The coffee shop on site seats 100 and serves light snacks and meals with a Highland flavour along with the gift shop which has both gifts with a Scottish and Royal theme. Visitors who would like to stay longer on the estate can book one of our 6 holiday cottages with the unique privilege of being able to play on the Balmoral 9 hole golf course. Salmon fishing is available on the river Dee which flows through the estate. The Queens Highland and Fell ponies are available for pony trekking throughout the open season and we offer a series of 2hr, day, evening and even two day trail rides. Wildlife safaris are also on offer with the Ranger Service; a fantastic way to explore the scenery and wildlife of this special place.

Fife Arms Hotel
Situated on the banks of the Clunie Water, The Fife Arms Hotel (originally called the “Hunters’ Fife Arms”) is believed to have been built in the 19th Century by the Duke of Fife for use as a hunting lodge. Over the years, the hotel has been sympathetically extended and now dominates the centre of the village.
The hotel has 78 bedrooms and boasts a fine lounge which has a magnificent open fire with the original coat of arms of the Duke of Fife above it. In addition to the restaurant, which overlooks The Clunie Water, the hotel also has a coffee shop (serving light lunches) and the bar also serves evening meals.
